The Chevy Cruze isn’t “Cruising” to any sales title!

WARREN, OH - AUGUST 21: A life-size foam model of the Chevy Cruze, an all new global compact car, is revealed to the media after Rick Wagoner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Corporation announced GM will invest more than $500 million to build the Chevy Cruze at its Lordstown Complex August 21, 2008 in Warren, Ohio. It’s not shocking news to us at DBN that the Chevy Cruze has not caught on like the bigs at GM at hoped. I can even sense some concern in the quotes from the marketing folks at GM that maybe potential customers aren’t “sold” on a design that already looks dated and has no hatchbacks on the lots!

There could be trouble for the Cruze with a new Ford Focus entering the marketplace early next year and other nameplates launching new products in this segment. We were skeptical of some the projections from GM in regards to this car back in September and it looks like we might have been spot on!!!

The Cruze would have looked better if it was on the road a year or two ago but it just looks like one of the cars that is already outdated before it even had a chance to grow old!

From the Detroit Free Press:

Three months after launching, the Chevrolet Cruze is on the shopping lists of fewer than 5% of compact-car consumers, General Motors says.

With the arrival of a redesigned Ford Focus next month and a new Honda Civic in the spring, GM has a short window to ramp up the Cruze’s image.

Chevy needs consumers to associate the Cruze — which replaced the Cobalt — with value-priced safety and creature comforts before ads for Focuses and Civics again crowd the airwaves.

“I would say that’s pretty important,” Chevrolet marketing chief Chris Perry told the Free Press.

Bullz-Eye Review of the 2011 Camaro 2LT Coupe

Bullz-Eye.com reviews the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT Coupe. Find what they had to say about this sweet ride!

The 2011 Camaro 2LT Coupe continues the impressive rebirth of the 2010 model with a few notable tweaks. When the Camaro arrived for our review, I took a few moments to admire this victory red car and think about how great it is to have the Camaro back in the game! The 2011 Camaro showed us the past and the future in a skin so stylish I’d call it borderline iconic.
Exterior

The styling of the 2011 Camaro is nothing short of eye-popping and what better way to bring such an important nameplate back to life than with this homerun design. Before the 2010 Camaro hit the streets, many wondered how much of the concept car the production model carry forward. GM answered the call and invoked the Camaro of the 60’s and 70’s with a new and fresh design that hit on all cylinders. The Camaro doesn’t go as retro as the Ford Mustang or Dodge Challenger, making her own mark instead. The low roofline, aggressive stance, and in-your-face front end make a lasting impression for even the most discerning eyes! The lines on this car are so dead-on, from the fender flanks to the gorgeous rear, you wonder where this Camaro been hiding all of these years? The 20″x8″ front and 20″x9″ rear flangeless, painted aluminum wheels with midnight silver finish were teamed up with a rear spoiler and unique tail lamps for the RS model we drove. Put simply, The 2011 Camaro is one of the best looking cars on the road today.

According to AutoBlog.com, it’s been a quarter-century since the last time Chevrolet’s reborn Camaro took down the Ford Mustang in sales but it’s on the verge of doing it now.

According to AutoWeek, the Bowtie Brigade has cleared 75,685 Camaro sales through the end of November, while the Blue Oval has shifted 68,264 units. Extrapolating the monthly sales totals to the end of December, AW estimates that Chevrolet will finish 2010 with around 82,500 sales, besting the Ford’s estimate of 74,500. Trailing the muscle car pack in sales is Dodge’s Challenger lineup, trending at around 36,000 units.

There has certainly been pent-up demand for the Camaro among consumers after its prolonged absence, but what’s even more impressive about its yearly sales total is that if the lead holds, the Chevy will have outsold the Ford and the Dodge with far fewer special editions and no convertible bodystyle like the Mustang. (A droptop Camaro is slated to go on sale next year, and a high-performance Z28 variant is also expected).

The Chevy Volt has been named Motor Trend Car of the Year according to the Detroit Free Press.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle has been named Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine, for General Motors’ second title in four years.

The Volt beat out contenders that include the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Sonata, Lincoln MKZ hybrid, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XJ, Infiniti M and Audi A8.

One of the Detroit 3 won the award every year from 1986 to 2002, until the Infiniti G35 broke that trend in 2003. Since then, domestic and foreign automakers’ models have split the award evenly, with the 2010 Ford Fusion midsized sedan winning last year.

The Volt also was named Automobile of the Year today by Ann Arbor-based Automobile Magazine.

Gettin’ schooled on the Chevrolet Volt

There is a lot of confusion out there on how the new Chevrolet Volt works. Count us in as those who are still trying to figure out the high price tag when compared to other hybrids. Oops! I forgot that the Volt isn’t a hybrid but rather an electric car that uses a gas engine to create electricity. Our friends at Insideline.com break it down for those of us who need a lesson or two on the Volt!

Imagine a straight line across a piece of paper. All the cars that have ever been made exist somewhere on that line, including the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.

At the left endpoint, let’s write “Gas” to represent vehicles powered by gasoline. Go ahead and add diesel, E85 or any other combustible fuel along with gasoline if you must. Point is, our left endpoint is not associated with batteries or electric motors.

That’s because “Electricity” is the label we’ll apply to the right endpoint of our line. This represents the pure electric vehicles — EVs for short. These have an electric motor, a battery pack and a place to sit. You plug them in and charge them up. When the battery runs out of juice, you’re walking.
