Volt batteries to the rescue!

From the Detroit Bureau.com:

If all goes according to plan, General Motors will be producing tens of thousands of plug-in hybrids annually in the coming years. So, what to do with the batteries when it comes time to sent vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt to the scrapyard?

Even after a decade of use, the lithium-ion battery pack in the typical Volt should have 70% of its capacity left, according to Pablo Valencia, GM’s senior manager for battery lifecycle management. And that means that even as the old Volt is melted down for scrap, those batteries could find new life propping up the nation’s electrical grid.

Starting next year, GM will partner with energy systems giant ABB to begin testing the use of Volt batteries as an energy storage solution that could serve a variety of purposes from preventing blackouts to helping level out the ups-and-downs of alternative energy sources like wind and solar.

2011 Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab Review

Bullz-Eye.com reviews the 2011 Silverado 2500!

The 2011 Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab makes a great first impression with its muscular exterior. We are happy to report things only got better during our test drive. Chevy made some significant changes to the 2011 Silverado that continue to perfect an already great truck!

Exterior
The Steel Green Metallic 2011 Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab we drove was an imposing sight with 20-inch forged polished aluminum wheels, 6-inch tubular chromed assist steps, chrome rear bumper and bodyside moldings. For an even sportier look, the LTZ truck included chrome surround grille, cargo box illumination, solar ray deep tinted glass and front fog lamps. The crew cab was well balanced with cab forward design. With all of the chrome updates, the 2011 Silverado 2500 4WD LTZ Crew Cab stands out on the road and commands respect. Heavy duty trucks have come a long way and with the 2500HD LTZ, you can add good looks to the equation.

Interior
Gone are the days of bare bones interiors. Trucks now have options to assist us on all of our jobs, like the rear vision camera built into the rearview mirror. Our test model included auto dual-zone air, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power heated black leather bucket seats with memory, OnStar, Bose premium speaker system, USB port and the always handy steering wheel radio controls. The dashboard and control center were clean and classy and had features like XM radio, driver info center display, 12-volt auxiliary power outlet and sharp wood trim. The cabin was spacious and the the center glove box was large and sturdy, with an open storage right under the control center. The handles and knobs were tailor made for workers wearing gloves, but look sharp enough to take your girlfriend or bride out on a nice date.

2011 Chevy Cruze ECO Review

Bullz-Eye.com breaks down the 2011 Chevy Cruze ECO inside and out. Check out what they had to say.

General Motors has a long history of trying to build the “right” small car, but many of those nameplates that didn’t make it for all sorts of reasons. Enter the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze with her stylish exterior , solid quality out of the gate and fuel economy that rivals the best from foreign and domestic manufacturers. All of a sudden, GM is back in the game. We drove a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze for a week for this review and, as always, we give it to you straight.

Exterior
First impressions are extremely important with any new product and, although the 2011 Chevy Cruze isn’t going to “wow” anyone, the Cruze shouldn’t offend anyone either. Our model came in with an impressive looking Jet Black paint job that, when washed, looked fantastic. The Cruze Eco has some distinct exterior enhancements that are aimed at achieving the best fuel economy possible while adding to the Cruze’s exterior appeal. After numerous hours in wind tunnel testing, GM designed “a lower front grille air shutter that closes at higher speeds to reduce aerodynamic drag and opens at lower speeds to optimize engine-cooling airflow. Another contributor to reduced drag is the use of ultra-low rolling resistance 17-inch Goodyear tires (used with lightweight wheels), which are also used on the Volt.” The front end of the Chevy Cruze has more than a hint of the current Malibu, with aerodynamic front headlights , moving toward more traditional lighting and a spoiler on the rear of the vehicle. The beveled hood, sculpted fenders and muscular fenders give the Cruze a more refined look than many competitors in this segment.

Here comes the 2012 Corvette!

From Auto News.com:

The introduction of high-performance tires and racing-style wheels for the Z06 and ZR1 models are the major changes to the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette, according to information posted at Corvette fan sites on the Internet.

Information is leaking out as Chevrolet is set to officially talk about the 2012 Corvette during the annual C5/C6 Bash fan event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend. Look for some official news on April 28.

Chevrolet has disclosed that there will be a Centennial Edition package for the 2012 Corvette, available on all trim levels of the car. That car will be available only with a black exterior. And it appears that is the only black on the Corvette color palate for 2012, according to ordering information posted by Montana Chevy dealer Ken Fitchner at www.corvetteforum.com.

Based on that information, it appears Chevrolet is making it easy for Corvette buyers to equip their Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes for use at track and club events.
