As with most things in life, first impressions are very important, so believe us when we tell you that the 2011 BMW 335is Coupe knows how to make a first impression. Our test model arrived and looked very confident in space gray metallic with a low stance and fresh rims. The week went by too quick, but here’s what we discovered about the 335is Coupe.
Exterior
The BMW 3 series models are becoming a brand of their own with distinctive looks that fit nicely into a growing niche market. Our loaner looked very sharp with new high depth LED tail lights, new xenon adaptive headlights with LED lighted corona rings, a new hood which integrates with the freshened kidney grille, 19 inch double spoke wheels, heated dual-power mirrors and heated windshield washer jets. The new air dam of the 335is Coupe is equipped with large openings meant to feed as much air as possible to the upgraded cooling system and looks totally cool while doing so. But for as stylish and refined as the 2011 BMW 335is Coupe looks from the outside, you really can’t appreciate the power at your disposal until you drive this thriller!
Bimmerpost.com has released a video of a camouflaged 2014 BMW M3 driving around. The most peculiar part is that it sounds like there is a V6, not an inline 6, under the hood. Normally, this would be blasphemy, and large mobs would form, pitchforks in hand. But after the introduction of turbos, M SUVs, and general weight gain, can anyone really be surprised that “M” may abandon its remaining calling card?
With the new BMW 1 Series hatch already released, everyone is waiting to see what the coupe will look like. This is important for us since the U.S. only gets the coupe version of the 1.
The 1 series was always the BMW meant for people yearning for smaller bimmers of old, but its styling was a serious drawback. This new on appears much improved with sleeker lines and less of the potbelly look that the old one had. However, these are just Auto Express’s renderings and not the real deal.
The new 1 series will be powered by BMW’s new turbo 4, which will replace their iconic inline 6 in the base models. Six cylinders will still be available in the higher spec models, but will be turbocharged. If you want more power, there will probably be a new generation of the 1M.
The name of the car might change as well. Auto Express guesses it will be called the 2 to differentiate the model from its hatch siblings. They back this up with rumors that the entire BMW lineup may receive a naming shakeup. Solid details are not yet known though.
With the 3 and 5 series getting more expensive and larger, the new 1 series looks to be the BMW to get. The coupe should be launched for the 2013 model year, so more concrete details should be coming out soon.
For your afternoon break of the day, DN brings you a BMW promo video of the new M5 lapping Laguna Seca. Hopefully, we will be able to test one soon to see how its new turbo motor stacks up to the naturally aspirated ones of old. Everyone needs to daydream a little during their breaks anyway.
Buying a new car is still one of life’s most exciting moments, and with 2012 just around the corner, the new models are starting to hit the show floors right now. Everyone has an idea about what makes the perfect car, but no matter which model you choose, 2012 cars are the first to have to comply with the stricter gas usage requirements (an average of 33.3 mpg) set by the National Highway Safety Administration.
Here are seven 2012 models from traditional car manufacturers that are anything but traditional.
Volkswagen Golf R:
Good gas mileage and Volkswagen have always gone hand in hand. The Golf R model promises to continue that tradition, plus include all-wheel drive and a six-speed transmission.
