2013 Ford Mustang GT500 Debuts

In 2002 Ferrari debuted their greatest supercar, the Enzo, with 651hp from a precision-tuned V-12. Now, only 9 years later, you can buy a Ford Mustang with the same amount of power, and nearly the same top speed. This Mustang is the 2013 GT500.

For 2013, Ford has updated the Mustang GT500 to go head to head with its crosstown rival the Camaro ZL1. But instead of trying to play fair with the 540hp uber Camaro, Ford engineers decided to go for broke and offer the new GT500 with a monstrous 650hp. Oh, and it also goes 202mph. 202mph!

To handle the colossal amount of thrust from its 5.4 liter supercharged lump, some extra modifications have been made as well: a carbon fiber drive shaft has been added, a sturdier transmission has been put in, and there is now an electronic launch control feature to help you wallop the ‘Stang off the line at with face melting precision. I cannot wait to see how effective these are in containing the ridiculous amount of power, though.

The price will probably a bit higher than the current GT500’s price of $49,000, but that is a far cry from the Enzo’s $1 million dollar asking price, and cheaper than even its competitor the ZL1. In fact, if you want to rationalize it further, its the cheapest way to get to 200mph. That’s a Black Friday caliber deal if I ever saw one. Of course not everyone can afford this new beast, and many of you will settle for a used Ford Mustang for sale, but for those of you with the budget, these are exciting times!

Strong Yen Makes Toyota Rethink Production in Japan

In a press conference by Toyota Motor Corp.’s president Akio Toyoda today, Toyoda announced that the strength of the Japanese yen may cause Toyota to shift production of compact cars to other countries. Toyota is not the first Japanese car company to come out against the yen. Nissan has also pleaded to the government to weaken the yen, or they would pull out of domestic production as well.

The yen has been incredibly strong against the U.S. dollar as of late, causing profit margins to erode for many of the domestic Japanese automotive manufacturers. Coupled with lagging demand in the U.S., and supply chain disruptions due to the earthquake, Japanese brands have had a difficult set of circumstances as they struggle for sales in a tough year.

2012 Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette Z06 is a Beast!

We love Corvettes and this version is simply epic! From the Detroit News:

It took Chevrolet 100 years to come up with this car: The 2012 Chevrolet Centennial Edition Corvette Z06.
It was definitely worth the wait.

Just look at it. Its Carbon Flash Metallic paint shines like icing on a cake that you can’t stop devouring. It’s temptation on wheels. And those are wheels with red trim and beefy calipers bulging under the silky black satin cast-spun aluminum. (The front wheels are one inch smaller than the back wheels, and they look wider than the Detroit River.)

Every piece of this car just looks a little meaner: The big, chin-scraping splitter below the bumper, the flash of a carbon fiber stripe on the hood, and little details that are once-in-a-century kind of things.

This Chevy includes a small graphic on the B-pillar of Louis Chevrolet — the brand’s namesake. Even the traditional Corvette racing flag gets a one-time adjustment, with Chevy adding the number 100 for the occasion. After all, you only become a centenarian once in your life.

But most things turning 100 don’t come with a 7-liter V-8 under the carbon-fiber hood. Maybe they should.
This car is frightful on the road. It’s an angry machine that you try taming only a little. You’re never going to break it like so many mustangs or other wild ponies. You grip the wheel with as much fear as you do joy when you’re tearing around town. And there’s really no other way to drive it. It shreds highways.

Scion gets more muscle

This is a very nice change for Scion! Now the brand has some muscle. From Auto News.com:

OYAMA, Japan — Toyota President Akio Toyoda unveiled his company’s new 200-horsepower rear-wheel-drive sporty car before thousands of fans at a Formula One race track today in his bid to spice up a brand better known for bland but utilitarian offerings such as the Corolla and Camry.

The car, to be called the Toyota 86 in Japan and sold as the Scion FR-S in the United States, has been in the works for five years and received close scrutiny from Toyoda, who is banking on the car as an affordable halo model to burnish the company’s performance credentials.

The 86 hits a top speed of 142 mph and can do 0-62 in 6 seconds. But raw speed is not the goal, says chief engineer Tetsuya Tada. The model’s true mission is multifold:

Infiniti IPL line

This Infiniti has serious power. Get ready for a serious ride! From the Detroit Bureau:

With the launch of its new IPL G Convertible, Infiniti is adding some real muscle to its new performance sub-brand.

At 343 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, the 2013 Infiniti IPL G Convertible gets a noticeable bump up from the more conventional Infiniti G37 cabrio, a well-received improvement from the base car which had plenty of show but needed more go.

First introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and then updated, in concept form, at the recent Pebble Beach Concours, the IPL G shares its 3.7-liter engine with the standard-issue G37 Convertible, but it undergoes some exhaust tuning and engine management changes that add an extra 18 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque.

The V-6 engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic that features downshift rev matching, magnesium paddle shifters and adaptive shift control.

The suspension is retuned to deliver more aggressive handling, with uprated steering and brakes also part of the IPL upgrade. Slight body modifications improve aerodynamics, as well. And the IPL G rides on special 19-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels shot with B

ridgestone Potenza tires.
