Experience the new Michelin LTX M/S2 with Ronnie Lott

What the common driver knows about tires could probably fill a napkin on one side: They’re round, black and you need four of them to make a car function.

But what the common driver doesn’t know about tires is what could save him or her in the long run. We’re talking both financially and in terms of safety for themselves and their passengers.

The Setup

When Michelin asked us to take part in an event to learn and test the new LTX M/S2 tires, we jumped at the opportunity. The original LTX M/S tire has been a long-time consumer favorite of Michelin’s and has remained at the top of its category for years. So we knew that if the company was going to expand and improve on the LTX M/S, then they had to be introducing a quality product.

For the event, Michelin sent me (along with several media members) to North Carolina and South Carolina for a complete presentation on the LTX M/S2 tire. And since the company stands by what they believe in, they also allowed us to take a three-hour drive through the winding hills of the Carolinas and also complete a series of field tests that weren’t just informative, but incredibly enjoyable as well.

Did I mention former NFL and Hall of Fame great Ronnie Lott was going to be there to lend his expertise on the LTX M/S2 tire, too?

Chevy’s Spark coming to U.S.

After going back and forth for quite some time GM has decided to add some “Spark” into the U.S car market with an A segment entry. With gas prices being so unpredictable this is a good insurance policy in case prices spike again.

From Left Lane News.com:

The Chevy Spark will enter the US and fill a role in the Chevy lineup that is not currently filled with any model – the A-segment. Currently, Chevy’s smallest offering is the B-segment Chevy Aveo.

Like most automakers in the US, Chevy’s reason for not offering an A-segment vehicle in the recent past was likely due to the fact that prior to recent market changes, the segment had little appeal to Americans.

Recent market studies by several auto manufacturers however show that Americans are trending towards smaller vehicles – possibly bucking the trend of all Americans thinking “bigger is better” when it comes to purchasing vehicles.

The future Lexus LFA

This future Lexus LFA is cool in so many ways including the finish. Here’s a sneak peak before the LA Show gets underway!

From Autoblog.com:

Along with a handful of other Lexus show cars, it showed up at our favorite Saturday morning car meet. The handler fired it up several times so the crowd could marvel at that V10 shriek. Reactions were mixed, mainly where price was concerned. We heard more than one person say that if it had a Supra badge and sub-$100K pricetag, it would be a killer. At four times that price, the Lexus badge just doesn’t seem to win as many people over. One thing almost everyone loved was that changeable display with the sliding center gauge.

Ford to invest $2.3 billion to modernize factories

With Ford continuing on their comeback streak they appear to be keeping the pedal to the metal with factory upgrades. Ford is reported to invest $2.3 billion in Brazil over the next five years to modernize factories and hopefully increase production. Ford is really making a move to re-establish themselves as one of the top auto companies going into the next decade.

From the Detroit News:

More than half of the money will be spent to expand production at the factory, which is Ford’s most advanced assembly plant in the world, and to modernize production at Troller Veículos Especiais S/A in Horizonte, Ceará, which Ford bought in 2007. The rest will be reserved for future product investments.

Ford spokeswoman Jennifer Flake said it represents the largest five-year investment in Ford do Brazil’s 90-year history.

“It will give us greater manufacturing flexibility,” she said.

Michael Robinet, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at CSM Worldwide in Northville, called the investment well-timed.

“It is an important market,” he said, adding that Brazilian consumers are becoming more sophisticated and are no longer satisfied with cast-off models from Europe and the United States. “Going forward, Ford knows that it will be a critical market for global platforms.”
