Is the Infiniti Essence back on again?

Should they build it? If they do the Essence could be one of the sexiest cars on the road!

From Auto Guide.com:

After previous reports had suggested Infiniti’s stunning Essence concept would never be any more than a shinny piece of auto show metal, word has now emerged that the luxury automaker may turn this fantasy into a reality.

According to a report in Motor Trend, one Infiniti executive, Shiro Nakamura, once again referred to the hybrid supercar as ,” only a showpiece… for now.” This exciting news was then reiterated by another exec, Ben Poore, who said that based off of the car’s incredible reception, the company is still considering a production model and that no final decision either way has been made.

New GM saving General Motors?

GM is going all out to find their next leader.

This article brings up a good point that the new GM has shed debt and restructured manufacturing to the point that the savings per vehicle is in the 5k range. The new CEO has a real chance to save GM from itself and I keep thinking Ford’s Jim Farley or Mark Fields might be the right person!

From the Detroit News:

Ask people in Washington or on Wall Street who they want to see running General Motors Co. and the answer is the same: another Alan Mulally.

In the three years since Bill Ford Jr. hired him away from Boeing Co. to lead Ford Motor Co.’s turnaround, Mulally has transformed the Dearborn automaker from the then most troubled of Detroit’s Big Three to the strongest. Without any experience in the auto industry, he ended Ford’s decade-long decline in U.S. market share, changed its notoriously careerist corporate culture and secured enough financing to allow it to weather the economic crisis without resorting to a government bailout.

But while Mulally may have been an outsider, experts say he was an outsider with skills and experience that qualified him to lead an American automobile company.

Hyundai shows off the 2011 Sonata at LA Auto Show

We all know that Hyundai has been on a tear with quality products priced to sell. Now the 2011 Sonata that was shown at the LA Auto Show could accelerate their climb up the sales charts. What are your thoughts from what you’ll read and see in the gallery from the link below?

From Car and Driver.com:

Think what you will about the ever-expanding “four-door coupe” theme—now applied to everything from luxury SUVs to mainstream sedans—but you just can’t help but be seized by the design of the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata debuting at the L.A. auto show. (Even if there appears to be plenty of Volkswagen CC and even a bit of Toyota Camry Solara to its looks.) Styled in the company’s California studio, the Sonata is strikingly swoopy and all creased up with Hyundai’s new design language called “Fluidic Sculpture,” which we’re told we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the future.

Chrysler hires Italian Ad Agency for latest TV ad

Oh Boy! Folks are getting uptight that Chrysler has hired an Italian Ad Agency (Armando Testa) for their latest 300 TV ad. Some are just plain ripping the socially conscious ad and some are just upset that they went overseas to hire an agency. If this is so horrible then start ripping all of the D-3 for buying parts overseas. If the parts are of good quality and the right price you don’t hear much complaining. If the ads turn out to be effective and the agency costs are reasonable the complaining will subside as well. If not…..look out!!

From the Detroit Free Press:

“If they’re so hell-bent on taking on social causes,” said Peter De Lorenzo, creator of AutoExtremist.com, “Why don’t they take the money and make a contribution to the food banks in and around this region instead?”

Last month, Chrysler’s former advertising agency, BBDO, announced it would close its Troy and Windsor offices early next year, leaving about 500 people out of work.

Check out the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Motor Trend’s full throttle coverage of the LA Show. We’ll be commenting on some of the notables going forward. They have some great galleries for you to check out so let us know what you like or dislike!

From Motortrend.com:

What’s good for Mini is good for Ford, right? Hold on. While the 2011 Ford Fiesta on sale this spring won’t range from $20,000 to $30,000+, it easily will stretch into four-cylinder Fusion territory thanks to a long list of gee-whiz features that don’t come with the base model.

To get costs down for North American-market prices, Ford has scrapped the European Fiesta’s “cheap and cheerful” interior, with its techy two-tone seats and matching dashboard-top colors. The North American Fiesta has black-on-black dashboard tops with contrasting plastic grains, although top-of-the-range the SES and SEL do come with different-colored lower dashes and door inserts and are available with supple leather seats with contrasting piping and stitching.
