Jaguar Special Edito XKR Review

If you’re looking to treat yourself to something special this year take a good look at the Special Edition Jaguar XKR.

From AutoGuide.com:

At the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, Jaguar will unveil a new Special Edition version of the XKR. Technically, the Special Edition model is a combination of two new option packs, the Speed Pack and the Black Pack.

The Speed Pack is quite simple, raising the top speed of the 510-hp supercharged V8 from 155 mph to a more frightening 174 mph. The Black Pack is essentially a new styling option and includes new front and rear spoilers, a new rear lip spoiler, 20-inch gloss-black Kalimnos wheels with red brake calipers and black trim for the window surrounds, front grilles and side vents. Jag will even offer an XKR decal for the side of the car. Inside, all Black Pack models will get charcoal leather with a variety of stitching choices, as well as three interior trim options Dark Oak, Dark Mesh Aluminum and Piano Black. Outside, all Black Pack models will be available in three paint colors: Ultimate Black, Polaris White or Salsa Red.

Tracer new small car from Mercury

Mercury stays alive! It is now official that Mercury will get a rebadged Focus for the 2011 model year called the Tracer. This is a badly needed product for the Mercury brand as there is now more Sable and the fleet is thin. Lincoln Mercury dealers really needed a high volume and entry level seller to get folks in the door and the new Focus based Mercury Tracer can’t come soon enough.

From AutoNews.com:

Ford Motor Co. executives confirmed that Mercury will get a new car on the same platform as the Ford Focus.

Ford executives told dealers Sunday at the make meeting that the small Mercury is coming in 2011, the same year the Focus arrives. Two dealers who attended the meeting say the car will be called the Mercury Tracer.

“Here in the United States, the trend toward fuel-efficient vehicles is very important, and the trend toward small cars is coming back,” Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas, said after the meeting. “Our strategy is pretty simple: have a broad-based lineup.”

Chrysler comeback closer than people think?

With all the talk about the lack of product for Chrysler and Dodge, the Detroit Free Press takes a harder look and some feel there is a lot more in the works than most give credit. In the next 12 to 18 months, look for a totally new experience when you enter a Chrysler/Dodge/Fiat showroom. The Chrysler comeback might be closer to reality than most of us could have imagined.

We feel the barometer will be how well the Fiat 500 performs when hitting the showroom floors later this year!

We all know Chrysler won’t reap the benefits of its alliance with Fiat until 2012, but that doesn’t mean the cupboard is bare. To the contrary.

This year, Chrysler plans to introduce three new vehicles that are acknowledged leaders in their segments and one new model that gets it into a growing and potentially lucrative new market.

The first Fiat model, the 500, will also arrive, giving Chrysler dealers a sophisticated and chic little car that’s smaller and considerably less expensive than the Mini Cooper.

Ford passing Toyota in U.S.

With all of Toyota’s current problems, projections for 2010 are tilting towards Ford Motor Company retaking the #2 spot in the US for sales with GM currently retaining the #1 spot. This could be a big blow to Toyota as for years they just kept of trucking along towards the #1 position but it looks like the faulty gas acceleration problem is torching their plans and the bleeding hasn’t stopped.

It is truly amazing that one year after Ford was on the brink of disaster, the blue oval is now the darling of the US auto market. Hint to Ford: Learn from Toyota’s mistakes. One more hint: Toyota won’t take this laying down and will come back with a vengeance and big time product to get back on track.

From Zacks.com:

According to a report by auto research website Edmunds.com, Ford Motor Co. (F – Analyst Report) has become the second-biggest automaker in the U.S. behind General Motors. With this, Ford has overtaken Toyota Motor Corp. (TM – Analyst Report) in the wake of Toyota’s damaging parade of recalls.

According to the website, Toyota is expected to lose more than 1 percentage point of the U.S. market share to hit 16.45% in 2010 due to its global recall of 8.5 million vehicles related to their problem accelerator gas pedals and braking systems. Meanwhile, Ford is expected to achieve 16.57% of the market in the year following General Motors with 18.12% of the market.
