2011 Camaro Bests Mustang in Horsepower War

More in the Camaro vs Mustang wars. Now the word is that the 2011 Camaro will best the Mustang with 312 hp in the V-6. The saga continues!

From theDetroitBureau.com:

It looks like engineers at General Motors have caught Ford napping once again as the 2011 Camaro DOHC V6 engine is now rated at 312 horsepower at 6500 rpm, and 278 lb-ft of torque at 5100 rpm. That’s a lucky seven horsepower more than Mustangs brand new V6.

Camaro fuel economy numbers haven’t been released yet, but last year the GM V6 delivered 304 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, and returned up to 29 mpg on the highway, but only 17 mpg in the city. (Click Here for First Look: 2010 Camaro Synergy Special Edition )

“The 304 horsepower in the 2010 Camaro was actually a conservative rating on our end,” said Tom Sutter, GM V-6 chief engineer. “But we knew already that this award-winning engine produced at least the amount of power we stated, but now we’ve gone the extra step in certifying the engine for this application and have verified an additional eight horsepower.”

Toby Keith keeps key role in Ford marketing charge

When you hear Toby Keith sing the lyrics “I ain’t as good as I once was” it has absolutely nothing to do with the 2011 Ford Super Duty. Rather, the truck is “better than ever” and it makes being a spokesperson for the best selling trucks in America that much easier for Mr. Keith.

From the Detroit News:

The country star told The Detroit News that he drove his own Ford pickup to his first meeting with the automaker eight years ago.

“I’ve never driven anything but Ford trucks,” he said. “My dad worked the oil fields. When he became a regional manager, he had to buy 100 new trucks every year to keep the oil field guys running, and he always had his fleet buyer buy Fords because they were so durable.”

Keith said his grandfather also swore by Fords.

And Ford Motor Co. swears by Toby Keith, which is why it is trotting him out again for the launch of the 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup, arriving in showrooms now.

Ferrari 599 GTO Supercar Fastest Street Legal Prancing Horse Ever?

How great can Ferrari make a car? I have asked myself that question many times and each new design proves a new answer. Well check out the Ferrari 599 GTO which might be the fastest street legal Ferrari ever!!! This beast checks in with 670-hp from its 6.0-liter V12 engine and the looks are off the charts hot. Whoever gets to own one of these is a very lucky person! Salute…

From AutoGuide.com:

It’s the fastest road-going Ferrari ever says the Italian maker of the world’s finest exotic cars. The 599 GTO is the latest Ferrari and is in many ways a street legal version of the 599XX track car. Making a total of 670-hp from its 6.0-liter V12 engine and using an upgraded transmission, lighter weight and improved aerodynamics, it has achieved what Ferrari says is a record 1 minute 24 second lap at the automaker’s Fiorano test track.

The engine itself has been modified from the factory vehicle with friction reducing components as well as a redesigned crankshaft and new new intake system to make all 670-hp at 8250 rpm, while a total of 457 ft-lbs of torque is available at 6500 rpm. Ferrari claims a 0-62 mph time of 3.35 seconds and a top speed in excess of 208-mph. Helping to achieve quicker acceleration is a reprogrammed six-speed F1 transmission with 60 ms shift times and the ability to drop several gears at a time.

Dodge Viper to get a Final Edition

Everything must come to an end and the end is now here for the Dodge Viper as we know it. Chrysler will run 50 of the 2010 Viper SRT10 Final Editions. It was a great run and the Viper will always be remembered as one Bad SOB. (P.S. Bring the Viper back in 2012!)

From the Detroit News:

Chrysler Group LLC is preparing to start production of yet another limited run. This time it is the 2010 Viper SRT10 Final Edition; 50 will be made, each with numbered dash plaques.

The Final Editions will be built in three body types: 20 coupes, 18 roadsters and 12 ACR (American Club Racer) models, all marked by a black center stripe traced in red and unique side sill badges and floor mats. Red accents continue inside, in the stitching, on gauges and the center stack.

2012 Ford Explorer caught completely disrobed

There is a ton of anticipation over the new 2011 Ford Explorer. AutoBlog may have captured the closest thing to a naked pic of this new auto from Ford Motor Co. It looks a lot like an Edge as it surely shares many of the same lines and facia. I really can’t develop an opinion on the body with these partial shots but it doesn’t look very risky like the original Explorer America. Can’t wait to see the officially released photos.

From Autoblog.com:

It’s never good to be caught by the paparazzi in the buff. Unless, of course, that was your plan all along in order to get your C-list self some much-needed coverage in the various gossip rags. But we digress. Our intrepid spy photographers managed to snap off a giant series of photos of the hotly anticipated 2012 Ford Explorer completely uncovered, and that is a very, very good thing indeed.

For the first time ever, thanks to an unruly gust of wind, we get to see the first-ever unibody Explorer in all its glory. That looks to include a new take on the familiar in-your-face three-bar grille with newly perforated top and bottom rungs bisected by two thin chrome strips up front. Note, too, the mildly sculpted flanks that lead to the currently en vogue fastback-like sharply raked C-pillar. A closer look at the fascia reveals not-yet-completed projector headlamps ensconced in clear covers that angle well back into the fenders. Lookin’ good so far, we’d say.
