GM clocks in with a $3.2 Billion first quarter profit!

From the Detroit News:

Detroit— General Motors Co. posted a $3.2 billion profit during the first quarter – its fifth consecutive quarterly profit, and further evidence the automaker continues to build momentum after its 2009 bailout.

“It’s a solid quarter,” GM’s Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann said this morning. “It’s good progress. It sets up a good foundation for the rest of the year.”

Revenue from January through March was $36.2 billion.

The first-quarter results also included a number of one-time gains, including $1.6 billion from the sale of its interest in Delphi Automotive, and $300 million for the sale of preferred shares in Ally Financial, Inc., the financial arm formerly known as GMAC. Excluding special items, interest payments and taxes, GM earned $2 billion, compared to $1.7 billion in the first-quarter last year.

The financial results – GM’s best first-quarter results in more than a decade — benefited from growing demand its fuel-efficient vehicles, like the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, and robust sales in China, where GM is a market-leader.

Shelby GT500CR Venom will get your heart pumping!

From AutoBlog.com:

Fresh off helping the Oklahoma State Legislature to write a new law to help restorers of vintage cars, Classic Recreations has announced the availability of the “Venom” version of its Shelby GT500CR. From the outside, the Venom appears to be identical to the standard GT500CR model, but under the hood lurks a ProCharger F1-R centrifugal supercharger to boost output of the 427-cubic-inch V8 to 780 horsepower.

There are some subtle changes to the rest of the car, as well. Inside is a set of racing-style bucket seats and a 200-mph speedometer, while the suspension has been upgraded and wider Nitto NT555 series tires added to help handle the extra horsepower.

Nissan’s NV200 commercial van beats Ford for taxi prize in NYC

This is a major victory for Nissan and the all new NV200 commercial van! In some ways this is even better than an award as can you just imagine how many potential business customers will be riding in these new Nissan vans in the Big Apple?

From CNN.com:

The iconic New York City taxi cab will soon look like a Nissan van, following a competition that pitted the Japanese automaker against two other finalists. Under a 10-year contract, Nissan won a deal to supply New York City’s taxis starting in 2013.

The new cabs will be based on Nissan’s NV200 commercial van. Among its special features will be a “low-annoyance” horn that works in tandem with blinking lights to gently urge pedestrians and drivers to get out of the way.

It will also have a mobile charging station and USB outlets that can be used by passengers.

Perhaps most importantly, though, the Nissan vans was the cheapest of the three to buy and operate, according to city officials, largely due to its fuel efficiency.
