Cars Worth the Wait

MSN.com puts together a list of five 2011 models that should be significantly better than previous versions.

Fall is here, folks. The days are starting to get shorter, the nights longer, and there is a slight chill is in the air. It also signals the start of the season to move sheet metal. From now until the end of the calendar year, automakers and car dealers will be throwing mad incentives at car buyers in an effort to sell their remaining 2010 model-year inventory to make room for 2011’s shiny new crop of autos.

Exceptional deals will be offered on these leftovers, for sure. But beware: Some of these bargains aren’t as good as they seem. Why, you ask? Because the cars they will be offered on are significantly inferior to the ones that are replacing them.

While we admit that year-to-year model upgrades are often inconsequential, a few are so good that they are worth waiting for, as they offer owners a bigger payoff in fuel efficiency, performance or value.

Here are our choices for the five 2011 models that promise to be far superior to the 2010 models they replace, and are thus worth waiting for.

Neiman Marcus Camaro Convertible

You can’t go to the local Chevy dealer and purchase a convertible Camaro yet but it’s coming soon and now news arrives of a special edition Neiman Marcus Camaro Convertible! The price will be steep at 75k so if you have someone who likes to spoil you add it to your Christmas list this holiday season. Check out the great pics…

From Autoblog.com:

It’s a big day for the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. General Motors has pulled back the curtains on a low-volume special edition version of the drop-top muscle car set to go on sale next year. The vehicle is slated to be featured in the annual Neiman Marcus Christmas Book – a catalog of high-end goodies for the ruling class. Only 100 examples of the Neiman Marcus Camaro Convertible will be sold through the catalog, each wearing special Deep Bordeaux paint and boasting drivetrain components borrowed from the mighty Camaro SS. That means there’s a full 426 horsepower on tap. Inside, GM has slathered the cockpit in leather touches only available on this special edition.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept

There are times when you’ve seen so many incredible super cars you just have to wonder “can it get any better’? Well, Lamborghini has an answer to that question and it’s a big “Yes!”. Check out the newly leaked pics from our friends at MotorCrave.com of the Concept Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, which means Sixth Element . I have to say the design level of this piece of art is a GrandSlam!

After yesterday’s leak, we figured Lamborghini would have no choice but to unveil its new concept today, and indeed it has. After dropping the sixth and final teaser, which we won’t waste any more time on, Lamborghini released photos and information on the concept.

The Sesto Elemento, which means Sixth Element, uses a carbon fiber monocoque tub and carbon fiber all over–front end frame, body panels, suspension parts, rims–pretty much everywhere you look. As such, it cuts hundreds of pounds over other Lamborghinis and comes in at a featherweight 2,202 lbs. (or 999 kg if you want to be catchy). The 570-hp 5.2-liter V10 engine has no problem pushing that light, skeletal body to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds on up to around 218 mph.

The car’s distinctive exterior is made with a fashion-out-of-function ethic, and the interior is stripped down to the most basic of basics–essentially an empty carbon tub with controls and padding in key places. Drop down below to see some more pictures and read the full story from Lamborghini’s press release.

Ferrari 599 SA Aperta

If you like Ferraris you’re going to love the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta!

From Inside Line:

As if owning a convertible Ferrari wasn’t exclusive enough, here is the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta. Built to celebrate Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary, this convertible 599 is the most exclusive road going Ferrari ever. Ferrari is building — and has already sold — 80 examples of this front-engined, V12- powered roadster. The SA stands for Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina.

Despite Ferrari’s bent towards the high-tech, this doesn’t have some swinging, flip-top roof a-la the Superamerica. Instead, there’s just a cloth soft top to be used in rare, emergency weather situations.

Aston Martin One-77 Gets 750 Horses

How fast can fast go? How about with 750 horespower? The Aston Martin One-77 Gets 750 Horses and that’s not a misprint my friends. Aston will produce 77 models at a price of 1.2 million pounds. That comes to 1600 pounds per horse…….

From MotorCrave.com:

Aston Martin announced official output figures for its limited-edition One-77, and the car will get even more horsepower than originally thought. By Aston’s reckoning the One-77’s 750 horses will make it the most powerful naturally aspirated supercar in the world. In terms of torque, the One-77’s 7.3-liter V12 engine provides 553 lb-ft.

It may be the most powerful naturally aspirated car, but Aston’s clearly contrived 220.007 mph time leaves the car about 20 mph short of the McLaren F1 for all-time fastest.

Aston is confident that it will sell all 77 models of the supercar, which carries a retail price over 1.2 million pounds.
