Mega coverage of the Woodward Dream Cruise

Our friends at AutoBlog.com did us all a favor and covered the Woodward Dream Cruise in full force! Check out these great pics of muscle cars, classic cars and just about anything you might see on wheels. This is a long tradition that was in need of a comeback year and it looks like Woodward is back! The 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is one of my favorites.

Every year, the muscle car is the most well-represented vehicle type at the Woodward Dream Cruise. And with good reason: These burly V8-powered steeds reinforce Detroit’s legend as the Motor City.

As we discussed in our post on Woodward’s classic cars, we’ve kinda sorta arbitrarily split American automotive history into two parts, using 1964 as the dividing line. Everything post-1964 is a muscle car… at least for our purposes. With that in mind, take a look at a bunch of classic Mustangs, Chevelles, Corvettes and, of course, Pontiac GTOs in our high-res image gallery below.

Stars and Their Cars

Take a look at these 12 rides that the stars like to roll around town in. Some are cool and some are just plain over the top. I have to say the 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra and the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe are totally cool!

From MSN.com:

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe
Noted black-on-black (aka “murdered out”) luxury vehicle enthusiast and sometime-international soccer star David Beckham has been spotted driving around Los Angeles in a sleek, blacked-out Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. The ride’s color scheme matches his $400,000 customized Porsche 911 Cabriolet Turbo and jacked-up Jeep Wrangler, and rounds out the luxury lineup in his garage, which also includes a Ferrari F430 and a V10 Lamborghini Gallardo. His wife, Victoria — aka Posh, former Spice Girl turned Marc Jacobs muse and international fashion plate — plays the ivory to Becks’ ebony in a white Porsche 911 Cabriolet.

Camaro vs. Mustang – the battle is on

The awesome battle between the Mustang and Camaro is in full swing and has not been this competitive for a long, long time. In 2009 the Stang’ outsold the Camaro and this year in 2010 the Camaro has the lead. But wait, hold on there Camaro fans as Ford has launched the 2011 Mustang with new and improved engines and in May the Mustang came out on top.

We’ll stay on this testosterone fueled race to the finish line in 2010. Also, Once the convertible Camaro is unleashed in the coming years this will only get better!

From the Detroit Free Press:

It’s Camaro versus Mustang, and the fight is on like Beatles versus Stones.

But unlike the tired brouhahas the baby boom insists on revisiting — do we really need to debate Vietnam, women’s rights or the Voting Rights Act ever again? — the pony car battle is as relevant as last month’s sales report and Ford and GM’s next quarterly earnings. Thoroughly modern versions of the two ’60s icons are selling fast and fueling optimism at the automakers.

It might as well be the summer of love again. The Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro have fired the imaginations of drivers, and car buffs are partying like it’s 1968.

Will the new 2011 Ford Explorer be able to carry the torch?

There are a lot of questions about the upcoming all new car based Explorer mostly because it has been kept a top secret for so long now. Will the Explorer and Flex be able to co-exist? Chief engineer Jim Holland is confident the new product will silence critics when it hits showrooms later this year. The anticipation grows and if the Explorer turns out to be a home run what does that do to Flex sales which are mediocre at best?

From Detroit Free Press:

Jim Holland, chief engineer for the redesigned Ford Explorer, which is expected to come to dealerships late this year, has faced naysayers before.

Holland, 49, was chief engineer of the Range Rover when a redesign of that SUV was launched in 2002.

“We got a lot of the same questions that I am getting today,” Holland said.

Mainly, those questions center on whether the new Explorer can maintain its ruggedness and towing capacity as it shifts from a body-on-frame truck to a car-based crossover. Ford still plans to market the Explorer as an SUV.
