Chevy steadily growing sales around the world in 2011

You might not think it was possible this soon but Chevy is on pace for an all time sales record in 2011. That is a great sign for the global recovery and an even better sign that GM is on it’s way back as well. If the economy can continue to grow it will be interesting to see how high GM and Chevy in particular can go in regards to U.S. and Global sales!

From the Detroit Bureau:

With its 100th birthday barely fading in the rearview mirror, Chevrolet is on pace to set an all-time global sale record in 2011, having sold 4.8 million units through the end of November and with December off to a strong start.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet’s global market share has increased by nearly one half of a point this year, Russ Clark, Chevrolet’s marketing manager for midsized and performance cars, told TheDetroitBureau.com, while suggesting General Motors’ largest marque is steadily advancing towards its goal of becoming a truly global brand.

Sixty percent of all Chevrolets are now sold outside the United States, which had been the bowtie brand’s primary hunting ground for most of the past century, according to statistics cited by Clark during a conversation about Chevrolet’s business plans.

2012 Dodge Durango Review on Bullz-Eye.com

If you’re looking for a large vehicle with three rows but you prefer a true SUV over a large crossover, the Dodge Durango should be on your list of options. But you also ought to drive one if you’re looking at the crossovers, as the Durango offers all of the luxuries you’ll find in the crossovers, but with the practical advantages of a truck like towing capacity. This time we tested the 2012 Citadel AWD version, which is the top of the line Durango with all the amenities you would expect from a luxury vehicle.

Exterior
We were very impressed last year when Dodge reintroduced the Durango for the 2011 model year. The designers hit a home run with an exterior design that was more refined, but retained the muscular feel of its predecessor. The big Dodge crosshair grille still stands out and the look of the vehicle matches the power one wants from a large SUV. One quick look tells you that you’d be just as comfortable pulling up with the Durango at a nice restaurant as you would be taking it off-road or to a construction site. But look more closely and you’ll see a nice attention to detail that we’re learning to expect from the new Dodge since the restructuring that put Dodge and the rest of Chrysler under the control of CEO Sergio Marchionne. The 2012 exterior is essentially the same as there’s no need to make changes to this new and winning design.

DIY Detailing: Interior Edition

When the inside of your car starts looking like the land of food wrappers, dirt, and miscellaneous papers, odds are you drag a vacuum over and clean the clutter. How detailed is your tidying up, though? Are you really cleaning well, or are you just making it look bearable and going on your merry way?

If you want your car’s interior to look pristine, you’ll probably need to do some detailing work. Detailing involves taking care of the smaller aspects of a car rather than just generally vacuuming or picking up the miscellaneous items. If you don’t really feel like paying someone else to do the detailing for you, here are some DIY tips you might find useful.

All-Purpose Cleaner is Your Friend

There are a lot of different specialized cleaning tools out there, but according to Consumer Reports, there are many household cleaners that can do the job and save you money. Just make sure you match up the right household product, and if you’re not sure, test it on a small area of the car.

All-purpose cleaner is great for cleaning your interior trim. Popular Mechanics recommends using a cleaner like Simple Green diluted at about 10:1. Use this type of cleaner and a clean, damp cloth to get the dirt off the hard surfaces inside of your car.

Cleaning the Nooks and Crannies

DMV.org recommends having Q-tips along with toothbrushes or paintbrushes on hand while you do your detailing work. These common household objects can help you with the smaller cleaning jobs. For example, after you’ve cleaned the plastic and metal parts of the car door, dry them and use a Q-tip or brush to get out the smaller stains you see.

Making Fabric or Leather Spotless

Leather cleaner, saddle soap, or some type of mild leather soap can work for cleaning your leather trim, according to Consumer Reports. Just make sure you get all of the excess soap off the leather once you’re finished. According to 21st.com, purchasing a complete detailing kit will often provide all the products you need.

The same article recommends using a spray-on upholstery cleaner and a soft brush to clean cloth upholstery. Popular Mechanics mentions that avoiding products that leave surfaces feeling glossy or slippery might be a good idea, as well, so passengers won’t be constantly sliding around in their seats.

Conclusion

There are many ways to clean the interior of your car without having to get it professionally done. Think about all of the materials you already have available in your home and decide how they can apply to car care. What other tips do you have when it comes to at-home car detailing?

Lincoln gets new ad agency but it really needs exciting products!

It’s good to see Ford is trying just about everything to rebuild Lincoln which included hiring a new ad agency for the brand. That’s all well and good but unless they deliver the sheet metal no agency out there is going to bring sales back to Lincoln. One of the problems is that Ford has went semi upscale with the Taurus Limited, Edge and Flex Limited so paying 10k or more for a Lincoln off the same chassis is a tough sell. I certainly don’t have the answers but time is ticking for Lincoln to finally get back on track!

From the Detroit Free Press:

Ford’s attempt to reinvent its Lincoln luxury brand will be sculpted by a new boutique ad agency that will relocate to more chichi digs in New York.

The new agency, which Ford and its chief advertising partner WPP have not yet named, will include an unspecified number of employees from WPP’s Team Detroit office and new hires in New York. The new team will start with about 45 employees, WPP said in a statement.

“New York is the center of the luxury market,” said Jim Farley, Ford group vice president for global marketing. “Assembling a talented, Lincoln-only creative agency team to build this brand is an important next step in our plan.”

Cameron McNaughton, an advertising veteran who has worked with other luxury automakers, will be president of the agency and report to Satish Korde, CEO, Team Detroit.

“Our goal is simple: To help our partners at Lincoln create a new future for their brand as it reinvents itself,” McNaughton said.

Danica in Daytona

Danica Patrick will be the talk of NASCAR next season now that she’s leaving the IZOD IndyCar Series for NASCAR’s Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series. She’ll get started at the Daytona 500 and then go from there. She’ll be running in 10 Sprint Cup races next year and you can bet she’ll be a huge story at each one. Her schedule was unveiled last month.

In addition to her full-season schedule in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series with JR Motorsports, also in a GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, Danica Patrick makes her Sprint Cup debut at the start of the 2012 campaign in the 54th annual Daytona 500 on February 26th at Daytona International Speedway.

The balance of her Sprint Cup schedule includes Darlington on May 12th, Bristol Motor Speedway August 25th, Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 2nd, Chicagoland Speedway on September 16th, Dover International Speedway September 30th, Texas Motor Speedway November 4th and the penultimate race of 2012 at Phoenix International Raceway on November 11th.

“Between our schedule and her full Nationwide Series schedule for JR Motorsports, Danica will gain a lot of experience quickly. At the same time, we’ll monitor her progress, and if we feel there’s a particular venue or style of track where more seat time would be beneficial,” Stewart noted, “we have two races where we can call an audible and enter her in those events.”

It will be fascinating to see how she does, and you know there will be a ton of interest from the Vegas sports books. Who knows, we could even see a record for Daytona 500 betting next year.

Either way it’s a huge loss for IndyCar and a big win for NASCAR.
