Next-Gen New Beetle Coming in 2011

For all of you VW beetle fans out there 2011 should be a fun year. The new 2011 Beetle will be even more fun to drive with a 2.0-liter diesel as well as VWs 2.5-liter 5-cylinder being offered and a hybrid version to follow. I really like the new roof line on this rag top bug and the rims….whoooaa!

From AutoGuide.com:

While many had just hoped assumed Volkswagen might let the new Beetle fade away after its first generation, the German automaker appears committed to the sickeningly cute car. So much so that a second-generation, or new New Beetle, will arrive next year.

According to a report by AutoWeek, VW will show a concept version of the car at the LA Auto Show before introducing a production model in May of 2011. Both cars are expected to take design cues from the 2005 Ragster Concept (above), and focus less on retro styling cues, with a stronger and more muscular appearance.

China passenger car sales up 63% in March

China’s car sales are turbo charged and poised to keep growing in the short term and possibly long term as well. March 2010 sales in the Chinese market soared by 63% and officials are forecasting over 17 million units this year. GM reported an increase of 68%, Ford was up a whopping 84% and the lot goes on. How high can they go is anyone’s guess but this year will cement China as the world’s largest auto market for the foreseeable future.

From the Detroit News:

Shanghai — China’s passenger car sales jumped 63 percent in March from a year earlier as manufacturers scrambled to meet strong demand driven by tax cuts and government subsidies, a state-affiliated industry group reported today.

Passenger car sales rose to 1.26 million vehicles in March, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Weak sales in the United States and a surge in car purchases by newly affluent Chinese buyers helped to make this the world’s largest auto market last year, when total vehicle sales jumped 45 percent over 2008 to 13.6 million units.

2011 Camaro Bests Mustang in Horsepower War

More in the Camaro vs Mustang wars. Now the word is that the 2011 Camaro will best the Mustang with 312 hp in the V-6. The saga continues!

From theDetroitBureau.com:

It looks like engineers at General Motors have caught Ford napping once again as the 2011 Camaro DOHC V6 engine is now rated at 312 horsepower at 6500 rpm, and 278 lb-ft of torque at 5100 rpm. That’s a lucky seven horsepower more than Mustangs brand new V6.

Camaro fuel economy numbers haven’t been released yet, but last year the GM V6 delivered 304 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, and returned up to 29 mpg on the highway, but only 17 mpg in the city. (Click Here for First Look: 2010 Camaro Synergy Special Edition )

“The 304 horsepower in the 2010 Camaro was actually a conservative rating on our end,” said Tom Sutter, GM V-6 chief engineer. “But we knew already that this award-winning engine produced at least the amount of power we stated, but now we’ve gone the extra step in certifying the engine for this application and have verified an additional eight horsepower.”

Toby Keith keeps key role in Ford marketing charge

When you hear Toby Keith sing the lyrics “I ain’t as good as I once was” it has absolutely nothing to do with the 2011 Ford Super Duty. Rather, the truck is “better than ever” and it makes being a spokesperson for the best selling trucks in America that much easier for Mr. Keith.

From the Detroit News:

The country star told The Detroit News that he drove his own Ford pickup to his first meeting with the automaker eight years ago.

“I’ve never driven anything but Ford trucks,” he said. “My dad worked the oil fields. When he became a regional manager, he had to buy 100 new trucks every year to keep the oil field guys running, and he always had his fleet buyer buy Fords because they were so durable.”

Keith said his grandfather also swore by Fords.

And Ford Motor Co. swears by Toby Keith, which is why it is trotting him out again for the launch of the 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup, arriving in showrooms now.

Ferrari 599 GTO Supercar Fastest Street Legal Prancing Horse Ever?

How great can Ferrari make a car? I have asked myself that question many times and each new design proves a new answer. Well check out the Ferrari 599 GTO which might be the fastest street legal Ferrari ever!!! This beast checks in with 670-hp from its 6.0-liter V12 engine and the looks are off the charts hot. Whoever gets to own one of these is a very lucky person! Salute…

From AutoGuide.com:

It’s the fastest road-going Ferrari ever says the Italian maker of the world’s finest exotic cars. The 599 GTO is the latest Ferrari and is in many ways a street legal version of the 599XX track car. Making a total of 670-hp from its 6.0-liter V12 engine and using an upgraded transmission, lighter weight and improved aerodynamics, it has achieved what Ferrari says is a record 1 minute 24 second lap at the automaker’s Fiorano test track.

The engine itself has been modified from the factory vehicle with friction reducing components as well as a redesigned crankshaft and new new intake system to make all 670-hp at 8250 rpm, while a total of 457 ft-lbs of torque is available at 6500 rpm. Ferrari claims a 0-62 mph time of 3.35 seconds and a top speed in excess of 208-mph. Helping to achieve quicker acceleration is a reprogrammed six-speed F1 transmission with 60 ms shift times and the ability to drop several gears at a time.
