Chevrolet Orlando To Be Sold In Europe, Asia, Canada Only

News flash! Another dumb idea from GM! The brain trust at GM have apparently decided against selling the all new Chevy Orlando in the U.S. because they want to focus on “other” Chevy products??? OK, So GM is calling this new stylish and sensible vehicle a “minivan” and guess what? 1.) GM/Chevy have no minivan for sale in the U.S. 2.) GM/Chevy have no other vehicle with 3 rows that compares to the Orlando 3.) With gas prices likely to rise soon the Orlando (which is off the same platform as the Volt and Cruze will get close to 35mpg on the highway) would be a home run in the U.S.

Oh well, I guess GM/Chevy are happy with losing market share to other companies like Ford and Hyundai so keep one of the better new products to come out of their stable in awhile and sell it basically everywhere but the U.S.

From AutoGuide.com:

The Chevrolet Orlando crossover will not be sold in the United States after all. In an interview with Bloomberg, Margaret Brooks, GM’s product marketing director for small cars and crossovers said that “The best thing to do for Chevrolet is to focus on the brands we’ve already brought to market: the Traverse, Equinox, Malibu and, soon to come, the Cruze.”

Chinese automaker to open headquarters in L.A.

Here comes Warren Buffet and his Chinese BYD to sunny L.A.! Mr. Buffett and his investment in BYD autos which manufacture electric and hybrid vehicles have chosen Los Angeles as their North American Headquarters mainly because of the green policies already in place and with more to come. What will the N.A. auto industry look like in 10 years is anyone’s guess!

From Money.CNN.com:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Chinese automaker BYD said Friday it has chosen sunny Los Angeles as the site of its North American headquarters.

BYD, a manufacturer of electric and hybrid vehicles backed by investor Warren Buffett, said it was lured by L.A.’s green energy policies, such as incentives for zero emission vehicles and solar roofs.

“California’s market-friendly energy and environmental policies are playing a vital role not only in making California more energy secure but also in bringing companies like BYD to our state,” said Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday during an announcement at L.A.’s City Hall.

2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Test Drive

Our friends over at Insideline.com were lucky enough to test a 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 for six months. That’s right, six months of thrill rides all over the streets of towns all over the country. This beast is equipped with an 8.4-liter V10 that makes 600 hp and 560 pound-feet of torque. Have fun you lucky dogs!

While we were sitting vigilant on the front porch trying to keep our guns, the Government done snuck in the backdoor and took our cars.

“The last of the muscle cars!” “The end of the V8!” “We’ll never see anything this good again.” These tenets of the automotive world have been repeated and retracted more times than we can count, and knowing that, we’re confident in saying that this, the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 is certainly the last of the truly bonkers muscle cars and the end of the made-in-the U.S.A. V10 in a production passenger car.

In a time when unintended acceleration and wild oversteer are dominating the headlines, a Dodge Viper in our fleet of long-term test cars makes perfect sense. With 600 horsepower available from an 8.4-liter V10, unintended acceleration and oversteer should be a daily occurence. And that’s exactly what we’re hoping for with our new Long-Term Road Test toy, the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10.

Guess The Brand

One of the more stylish and funky cars I’ve seen in awhile. Hard to believe it’s a Citroen but that’s the truth! This Metropolis Concept was designed in Shanghai and will be a real head turner when it hits the Chinese market.

From theTruthAboutCars.com:

That’s right, it’s a Citroen. Inspired by the success of German brands in China’s luxury segment (and possibly problems with its taller offerings), this Metropolis Concept was designed in Shanghai as a vision for a French entry in that burgeoning market segment. It also seems more than a little inspired by Jaguar’s stunning new XJ, just as its sister brand’s recent Five By Peugeot Concept seemed to take some cues from Jaguar’s XF. Could Ian Callum be in danger of being wooed away by the French?
