Jaguar to produce special edition XKR

Looks like Jaguar will be producing a special edition XKR that could generate 523 hp and still look smooth just like you would expect from a Jaguar. No word yet on the official launch but when we see it you will too!

Jaguar is currently working on a new special edition XKR, which will be a production model of the XKR Goodwood Special it showed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year. The new car is in the prototype stage and recently raced around the ‘Ring in under eight minutes.

The XKR from Goodwood featured the XKR’s supercharged 5.0-liter V8 upgraded to output 523 hp and 516 lb-ft (up from 510 hp and 461 lb-ft). Other modifications included lowered suspension, 21-inch wheels and a four-pipe exhaust system. It’s capable of speeds up to 186 mph.

Katy Perry and Mario Batali perform at 2011 VW Jetta premiere in Times Square

Katy Perry and chef Mario Batali made a surprise appearance at the premiere of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta in Times Square.

Katy Perry performed her hit singles “I Kissed A Girl”, “Hot and Cold” and her new single “California Gurlz,” even jumping on the hood of the new Jetta mid-performance. “I was dancing on the hood of this all-new Volkswagen Jetta 2011 and it was fantastic! Everyone should get one and dance on it! You’ll have some incredible dance moves coming your way,” said Perry.

Chef Mario Batali was on site to put together simple and sophisticate Italian summer fare. “I’ll be happy to buy the new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta in Mario Batali orange, but I’d have to have some kind of sexy purple on the inside!” he said.

At a starting price point of around $16,000, the all-new 2011 Jetta offers best in class rear legroom, a premium interior and Volkswagen essentials. Unveiled for the first time today at an unexpected urban oasis in Times Square, New York, the all-new 2011 Jetta features clean lines, refined side architecture and premium style combined with Volkswagen’s trademark precision German engineering. The all-new 2011 Jetta sets a new standard in its class and will be available in the U.S. this October.

2011 Dodge Charger

It’s out of the bag! That’s right – the new 2011 Dodge Charger has been spotted (or spy shots might be better) and this is one tough looking car my friends. The front end appears to be chiseled with a low muscular stance. Can’t see the rest of the new Dodge Charger but if goes along the same lines as the front end this is going to turn some heads on the road. This Marchionne just might pull this thing off!

Last time our spy photographers met up with the revamped 2011 Dodge Charger, it was in full leathers. So we didn’t know if it was going to ease up on the snarky attitude and duck into an Italian cafe to nurse an espresso with Sergio Marchionne. Today, we know better. The snarkiness factor is dialed up to an 11 on the 2011 Charger, which starts production this fall.

Though the Dodge crosshair grille remains, the girly curves of the old version are gone and it juts out more aggressively (not unlike the snout treatment on Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution). The center of the hood is now prominently chiseled just like on the Dodge Challenger. And the downturned headlights give the big sedan a nasty scowl. Note the reshaped front air intakes, too.

Death of the Chevy name?

I had to wait a few days before commenting on the so called death of the Chevy name. A memo was leaked from inside GM and it appears the brass in marketing want to move the nickname of Chevy aside and refer to the brand only as Chevrolet. I just said Chevrolet a few times and you know what? It sounds so good that I’m sure GM can add a few thousand bucks to each Chevrolet they produce because it just sounds more expensive. That little Chevrolet Aveo can now easily fetch what a Jaguar would set us back right? Ok let’s get serious here. The nickname Chevy is going nowhere and with the pull back we now are watching from the bigs at Chevrolet they realize it too. Long live the Ford Vs. Chevy wars!!!

GM makes Chevrolets, but people own Chevys.

That’s the message lost in all of the silly name games that hit the fan Thursday.

If you haven’t heard, here’s the short version: GM tried to kill the Chevy name, and the automaker now faces attempted manslaughter charges in the court of public opinion.

The more realistic version is this: A couple of bigwigs — namely Alan Batev, vice president of Chevrolet sales, and Jim Campbell, GM’s vice president of marketing — drafted an internal memo to the marketing team declaring “Chevy” was now a dirty word and to never use it.

In Chrysler’s newest ad, the General and his thundering Calvary descend upon the bland, boring and bromidic (or “British”). While Washington and his four-wheeled troops rally against the Redcoats, the U.S. soccer team will be battling it out with England at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and you’ll be able to watch them both. The Dodge Challenger “Freedom” spot will air regionally during the match on Saturday, following its on-air debut at 11 p.m. EDT today during ESPN SportsCenter.
