Chevy Corvette to have two verisons?

Looks like some real serious debate has been underway at the General regarding the next gen Corvette. Should they keep it simple and affordable or offer a higher end model to compete with the best the world has to offer? Either way please don’t jack up the price of the Vette and make it unattainable for those who truly love this American sports car legend.

As sure as the sun rises and God makes little green apples, there will always be a Chevrolet Corvette.

Exactly what the next generation of America’s most revered sports car will bring is the topic of intense study within General Motors, however.

The Corvette is arguably the world’s best sports car. It has looks that would make Ferrari proud, performance to match Porsche, and a price that undercuts both by tens of thousands of dollars.

It also has countless fanatical admirers and a devoted owner base built up over decades.

Here’s a great comparison article of three hot sports/luxury/incredible and beautiful cars! Car and Driver hit it on the head by claiming: The startling new Porsche sedan goes toe-to-toe with a glamorous Italian and a businesslike German.

Why did Ford build the Flex?

Why did Ford build the Flex? This boxy vehicle was supposed to fill a gap in the lineup that was partially occupied by the Ford Windstar..ehhhhh do I have to mention the Freestar??? Even though Ford didn’t put huge numbers out there for the Flex to hit in regards to sales it has to be a disappointment for The Blue Oval. This Flex is so damn boxy and awkward it really turns a lot of us off and for the price tag you would hope for more better styling. (hint: Chevy Traverse or GMC Acadia to name a few)

It is interesting to see that Peter Horbury has been shipped out of the design studios for Ford after laying an egg with the under achieving big box Flex and has new assignments on his desk somewhere far away from Mulally’s office. This SUV/Crossover segment is huge and very profitable and Ford just blew it with this one. I know there are those of you who like the Flex and have even purchased one but how many of your friends or kids like it too? The Ford division is not in the business to design and build micro niche vehicles! (I just made up micro niche) Ford is and always will be a mass appeal brand and maybe, just maybe, the Flex box would have been better off as a Mercury. I know it would have been just as ugly but hey, Mercury is a very small division and isn’t expected to put up the big numbers like the Ford guys and gals.

The underpinnings of this car are actually solid and the new Lincoln MKT looks fabulous (even though the price tag is high) in a much better skin so maybe we’ll see a completely new Flex box next time around! Let’s only hope…

VW Scirocco back with 550 horsepower

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen VW Scirocco hatchbacks on the streets of the good ole USA but like a power packed punch VW is bring the Scirocco back. This time it could be rollin’ down the pavement with 550hp and tuned to your liking. Very cool ride indeed…

It’s been a long 22 years since Volkswagen deemed North America worthy of its Scirocco hatchback. For those V-Dubbers who can’t live without VW’s newest iteration of the hot hatch, HPA Motorsports will not only import one into the new world, but tune it to your exact specifications.

The volks at HPA Motorsports have worked out a deal to have the Scirocco imported directly to its workshop in British Columbia, Canada, only 10 short miles over the U.S. border. Once the car arrives, the fun begins. While HPA can do just about whatever your heart desires, they strongly suggests the FT565 package, a special setup that adds a pair of Garrett H25 turbochargers to the 3.2-liter V-6. The mechanics at HPA beef up all the internals to handle the 550 hp and 500 lb ft of torque the new engine produces. Brakes are upgraded to 14-inch rotors and 8-piston calipers in front, along with 13-inch rotors in back. Stock wheels are replaced with 19-inch BBS aluminum rolling stock, wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires.

Buick going after younger crowd with Riviera

At one point left for the over 60 crowd, Buick is serious about getting back in the game with the 30 and 40 crowd. This Riviera concept from 2007 could become a reality in some form of the Regal. Keep it coming big ol’ Buick!

Back in 2007 Buick showed the stunning Riviera Concept and now it appears just such a vehicle isn’t as far fetched an idea as might previously have been though. In an interview with Automotive News, Buick and Chevy design director John Cafaro said that his role at Buick involved, “being a zealot for getting Buick more youthful, more spirited and probing ideas for coupes, more expressive vehicles.”

Again, back in 2007, the Riviera sounded nice (and looked spectacular) but Buick wasn’t really an innovator. Quite the opposite really. But with the launch of the LaCrosse and now the return of the Regal, we’re starting to see more interesting things from the conservative brand. Heck, it would appear as though the high-output Regal Show car will actually see production as the Regal GS. And the Regal isn’t the extend on Buick’s down-sizing either with a new smaller in the works, while a smaller Enclave model is also being talked about.
