UAW leaders set to nominate Bob King for president

If past practice is any indication, support from the UAW’s administrative caucus means King should have it in the bag.

From Money.CNN.com:

DETROIT (Reuters) – The leadership of the United Auto Workers is set to meet next week to name Bob King as the preferred candidate to succeed retiring President Ron Gettlelfinger, two people with knowledge of the plan said.

King, who has headed negotiations with Ford, would be named as the preferred candidate by the UAW’s administrative caucus at a meeting set for Wednesday, according to the sources, who could not be named because the plan remains private.

UAW spokesman Roger Kerson declined to comment.

Ford CEO Mulally talks to new GM Chairman Whitacre

During the course of this conversation between Mulally and Whitacre, do you think the names, Mark Fields, Jim Farley or Joe Hinrichs came up? It would be a major coupe if GM could tap one of these three to be the CEO at The New General. A young and talented CEO with a take no prisoners Chairman like Whitacre might be what the people ordered from GM.

Per Reuters.com:

DETROIT, Dec 10 (Reuters) – Ford Motor Co (F.N) Chief Executive Alan Mulally said in a CNBC interview on Thursday that he had talked this week with General Motors Co [GM.UL] Chairman and Chief Executive Ed Whitacre.

Mulally, who Ford hired away from Boeing Co (BA.N) three years ago, did not discuss details of his conversation with Whitacre. Whitacre became chairman of GM in July and was named CEO on Dec. 1 with the resignation of CEO Fritz Henderson.

“Well, matter of fact, we did talk yesterday,” Mulally said in an interview with Jim Cramer on CNBC. “He’s reaching out just the way that I did when I came in.”

The Buick Regal is back for 2011

From our friend at TheBachelorGuy.com:

In my New York neighborhood back in the 80’s, when you were done with kid stuff and ready to get rid of your Camaro or Firebird, you graduated to either a Monte Carlo, or, if you really wanted to let go, a Buick Regal. (Although, if you still couldn’t give up the muscle car power, and you had the coin, you got the famed Regal Grand National.)

That was before the beloved car started sharing bodies and powertrains with the perennial senior citizen-magnet, the Buick Century. (I’m wondering if that’s why a lot of senior communities in Florida are called Century Village…) The car was mercifully put out of its misery in 2004.

But now it’s back… completely resurrected and redesigned as a true euro-inspired sports sedan.

Is the Infiniti Essence back on again?

Should they build it? If they do the Essence could be one of the sexiest cars on the road!

From Auto Guide.com:

After previous reports had suggested Infiniti’s stunning Essence concept would never be any more than a shinny piece of auto show metal, word has now emerged that the luxury automaker may turn this fantasy into a reality.

According to a report in Motor Trend, one Infiniti executive, Shiro Nakamura, once again referred to the hybrid supercar as ,” only a showpiece… for now.” This exciting news was then reiterated by another exec, Ben Poore, who said that based off of the car’s incredible reception, the company is still considering a production model and that no final decision either way has been made.
