Lincoln MKT next-gen Town Car for Ford

Mulally Ford is not wasting time preparing for the end of the line for the venerable Lincoln Town Car. Ford is making their best pitch to NYC that the new Lincoln MKT has the chops to replace the fabled Town Car for chauffeured drives around town and to and from the airport. The MKT will have the capability to be stretched for limo usage and include all wheel drive which should make this the future ride for chauffeured passengers. The Lincoln MKT is a luxurously appointed vehicle that can fill a big void for Ford and also keep many workers building product that should turn a tidy profit as well.

Great planning by Ford/Lincoln as I have the feeling we’ll be seeing quite a few “stretched” Lincoln MKT Town Rides around the city!

Ford Motor Co (F, Fortune 500). is offering a special version of its Lincoln MKT crossover, announed just ahead of the Paris Auto Show’s public opening on October 2nd.

Black MKTs (and make no mistake — livery drivers will insist on black) are already showing up in Gotham, being put through their paces by chauffeurs trying to figure out whether their clients judge them sufficiently prestigious and sufficiently sturdy to withstand the wear and tear of livery operation in the big city.

Infiniti to market all-electric cars

Inifiniti luxury cars will launch an all electric vehicle in the U.S for 2013 and that isn’t too far away. At first it seemed alot of the EV plans were so far into the future that the day would never come. Now it appears a serious attempt is underway by the major automakers to get their EV’s to market pronto. The new Nissan Leaf has already surpassed 20,000 orders so now it just needs to perform to keep the momentum going!

Infiniti plans to launch its first luxury all-electric vehicle in the United States and other global markets in 2013.

Nissan Motor Co.’s luxury division said today the Infiniti EV will be “a stylish, high performance five-seat luxury vehicle with zero emissions technology.”

Infiniti first announced plans to market an all-electric vehicle last year but offered few details until now. It will be based on the same platform as the Nissan Leaf, an-electric car scheduled to go on sale later this year.

Aston Martin One-77 Gets 750 Horses

How fast can fast go? How about with 750 horespower? The Aston Martin One-77 Gets 750 Horses and that’s not a misprint my friends. Aston will produce 77 models at a price of 1.2 million pounds. That comes to 1600 pounds per horse…….

Aston Martin announced official output figures for its limited-edition One-77, and the car will get even more horsepower than originally thought. By Aston’s reckoning the One-77’s 750 horses will make it the most powerful naturally aspirated supercar in the world. In terms of torque, the One-77’s 7.3-liter V12 engine provides 553 lb-ft.

It may be the most powerful naturally aspirated car, but Aston’s clearly contrived 220.007 mph time leaves the car about 20 mph short of the McLaren F1 for all-time fastest.

Aston is confident that it will sell all 77 models of the supercar, which carries a retail price over 1.2 million pounds.

Porsche steps up with 2011 Boxster Spyder

Porsche steps it up with the new 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder and my bet is that folks are going to love this car! The Spyder is at the top of the Boxster food chain and at $61,200 you have to come in with high expectations and Porsche wants you to be satisfied inside and out! The options are many and the looks are clear cut and to the point. Oh, Part of that to the point is speed comes first as their is no radio or air conditioner but plenty of horses!

Current Sebring to be the Chrysler 200

Chrysler Dealers were shown the future in Orlando, Florida this week and part of the plan is changing the name of the current Sebring to the Chrysler 200. Good move Sergio! The last redesign of the Sebring fell flat partly because of styling woes and a crappy interior to boot so this car gets kicked to the curb. The new 200 under the new Fiat led group will sport a stiffer body, new suspension geometry, a new rear sway bar and improved noise, vibration and harshness treatment according to the company.

Fiat/Chrysler keep marching towards the future and we like what we see!

DETROIT — Chrysler Group today said it would name its redesigned mid-sized sedan the Chrysler 200 — the vehicle that will replace the Sebring in its lineup.

The 200 is a re-engineered, restyled version of the current Sebring.

The company showed the renamed car and several other vehicles to its dealers today at a national meeting in Orlando and said the 200 will arrive in showrooms in the fourth quarter.

The 200 will be available with Chrysler’s new Pentastar V-6 engine and a six-speed automatic or with Chrysler’s 2.4-liter I-4 engine mated to a four- or six-speed automatic transaxle.

Has Chevy dropped the ball with the Cruze?

GM has its new Chevrolet Cruze rolling off the assembly line and before you see the first commercial they might have dropped the ball. They have the sedan heading to dealer lots in the U.S. but where is the five door hatchback? AutoNews has pointed this out and I totally agree for a few reasons. First, you have a hatchback going on sale in other markets across the globe so why not sell it here? Your competitors in the likes of Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Mazda 2, Nissan Versa and many others are selling well. Secondly, GM is touting the Cruze as one of its most important launches for the survival of this company and they don’t give customers a choice with a hatchback? I can’t see Mulally, Ghosn or Marchionne leaving a big hole in the center of a huge launch like this? Could you?

I also feel the look of the hatchback takes the Cruze further away from looking like a reduced Malibu and with that it stands on its own more. Let’s hope that the sedan sells well but even with solid sales let’s pray that the suits at Chevrolet wake up and get the hatchback here in the U.S. in showrooms asap. The Cruze might be the best small car that GM has built but that doesn’t mean customers considering a Fiesta, Corolla or Civic will think it’s one of the best to choose from in a very competitive field.

2011 Nissan JUKE Sport Cross Review

If you’re looking for a new car that will get you noticed but you don’t want to break the bank, you ought to test drive the new Nissan JUKE. Nissan’s bold new entry in the sport crossover market has head-turning styling and an engine with a nice kick. The car immediately grabs your attention with a front end that turns conventional styling on its head. The turn signals are integrated into the front fenders in a spot where you might expect to find the headlights, but with a closer look you’ll see the round headlights below the turn signals. It won’t appeal to everyone, but we suspect it will be a big hit with a large number of guys in their 20s.

If you do decide to take a test drive, you’ll find out quickly that the JUKE is fun to drive. The JUKE sports a standard 188-horsepower 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline turbo 4-cylinder engine, and it offers an advanced torque vectoring all-wheel drive (AWD) system as an optional upgrade over the front-wheel drive version. We were very impressed with the performance as we drove a JUKE with the AWD option around the beautiful scenery surrounding Vancouver. The handling on the JUKE is excellent with the AWD system and you’ll enjoy zipping around tight turns.

Saving Money with Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars offer a ‘green peace of mind’ if you care about the environment and that may be enough to convince many to trade in their SUV’s. But, eco-conscience aside, there has been some criticism that most hybrid cars have no payback when gas prices are low. Some skeptics say the extra money on the sticker price doesn’t come back to the consumer in the form of fuel savings.

Lucky for the industry (and the planet), there is one hybrid car that just might win over the naysayers because it actually costs less than the full gasoline version of the same model. In a recent study, researchers looked at the estimated fuel costs of 16 hybrid cars over their sticker price and any applicable financing fees, and were surprised to find one car that pays the owner back and then some: the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S 400 Hybrid.

It’s a hybrid version of its gas-powered counterpart, and costs around $5,000 less over a five year period. In the U.S., it is the most inexpensive S-class Mercedes available, and currently the only one in its class with a V-6, instead of the typical V-8 engine. It’s every bit as luxurious, despite its cost-saving characteristics.

The car gets 27 miles per gallon, which is great for its class. Mercedes has embraced hybrid technology in recent years, and is considering making its S-class of cars available in the U.S. as hybrids only within the next couple of years.

While buying a hybrid isn’t all about the payback, consumers might be more motivated if they know they’ll be doing a good thing for the planet, and that their investment will pay off. Saving a few dollars for favorite pastimes and hobbies such as movies, music, and playing online casino games might be enough of an incentive to win over a larger share of the market.

Chrysler bucking the trend in sales

Despite sales drops for most major automakers, Chrysler bucks the trend by posting a year over year increase for August of 7%. Jeep posted big numbers with the Patriot jumping 57% and the Liberty climbing 56%. The most glaring number was the Dodge Challenger muscle car shooting up a whopping 190%. For most companies it would be a solid month but for the rebuilding Fiat/Chrysler it bodes exceptionally well for their prospects once the new models hit showrooms in 2011.

Chrysler defied the industry trend with a 7% increase in new vehicle sales in August from a year earlier when Cash for Clunkers inflated most of its competitors’ sales.

Once again, the Jeep brand led the way with a 17% year-over-year jump, helped by a 57% sales improvement for the Patriot and 56% increase for the Liberty.

But Chrysler’s year-over-year comparison benefited from the fact that it did not capitalize on last summer’s Cash for Clunker incentives because it had very little inventory of its smaller models.

“We will continue to build in this momentum as we begin production on a stream of new product through the end of this year,” said Fred Diaz, Chrysler lead executive for U.S. sales.
